The Aeroconservancy Museum Original Artifacts from 1914-1918
Buttons, Aviation Militaire
The button on the left at 21 mm diameter with horizontal stripes behind its winged propeller and roped surround has the ARA Depose trademark on the back. Typically 7 to 8 buttons were used to close the front of the tunic. Another version with a pebbled background is shown on the right and did not have a trademark on the reverse. The button in the middle at 15 mm diameter has the Perfectionne trademark and was typically used for the tunic's 2 epaulets and 4 pockets. Other makers made these buttons, as well, and you can read more about this here in an article from Over The Front, Volume 37, No. 2.
